Identity Mutations – Experimenting the City

Presented in 2002 at the Kwang Hwa Information & Cultural Centre in Hong Kong as part of La Casa – Art Projects, developed by José Abad and me from Beijing, Identity Mutations – Experimenting the City explored artistic practices beyond conventional exhibition formats.

Rooted in our experience of living and working in China, the project examined how cultural displacement reshapes perceptions of the city and identity. Through printmaking, calligraphy, digital imagery, light, sound, and installation, we explored the dialogue between tradition and contemporary technologies.

The city became both medium and site of transformation, while identity emerged as a fluid process shaped by displacement, cultural exchange, and the ongoing negotiation between belonging and otherness.
