Memory Beings
To see a World in a Grain of Sand
And a Heaven in a Wild Flower,
Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand
And Eternity in an hour.
— William Blake
From the beginning, my practice has been shaped by an exploration of memory, inner journeys and displacement. Over time, these concerns have expanded into questions of migration, identity and belonging. The journey—both geographical and emotional—remains the thread connecting the different stages of my work.
Memory Beings is an intimate investigation into memory, roots and the relationship between human experience and the natural world. Working with ceramics and porcelain, I return to memories of childhood and to the landscape of Ecuador. The material itself becomes a carrier of memory: porcelain retains the traces of touch, movement and transformation, much like the body records the passage of time.
The series emerged from an intuitive practice of drawing and automatic mark-making. These gestures gradually evolved into imaginary landscapes and organic forms, suggesting a continuous movement between the microscopic and the cosmic—cells, organisms, landscapes and galaxies.
Inspired by an understanding of nature as an interconnected system, the works explore the idea that nothing exists in isolation. Memory Beings becomes an homage to my roots, my family and the natural world, while proposing memory not as a fixed archive of the past, but as a living matter—constantly transforming and generating new forms.
